Who's On Top

From a lesser known studio comes an even lesser known cast in a indoor all-sex romp with the semi-provocative title, Who's on Top? In three of the four pairings in this caper we get one twink and a beefier yet still young, fairly average looking guy. In the fourth pair, the bigger guy is older and looks like his torso was chiseled out of a block of granite, at least compared to the other average Joes in this flick. I guess the point of the title was to suggest that we viewers might be surprised at who ends up servicing whom. Well, there are few surprises with respect to who tops who or in much of the sexual horsing around by each pair. But the lack of surprise doesn't necessarily make this a total dud.

Two apartment dwellers attempting to sublet serves as the weak excuse for couples to check out the place and each other. There's some loud, noisy moaning and groaning from the place next door which serves both to get the pairs in the mood quickly but also, in the end, to go look for someplace quieter to live.

First up, the first pair of potential lessees gets hot and bothered by the noisy sexcapades next door and they slowly undress each other while passionately kissing and hugging. They engage in a lot of foreplay which actually makes for a nice affectionate scene. This is the one scene in which the slightly bigger gets fucked by junior. Nothing earth-shaking in the sex, but enough to keep my attention.

The second scene features the apartment dwellers themselves in bed. In this one, the bigger hairy guy added a nice variation by fucking his twink partner doggie style, then lying on their sides, then with the twink flat on his back, all the while keeping his dick inserted in the boy's hot hole. The sex is fairly average but the degree of difficulty is way up there.

Third up a tall guy and his little blonde twink get it on while checking out the master bathroom. Lots of mirrored reflections added to the scene and the topman here obviously knew how to take charge, with lots of ass-smacking and sounds of his balls slapping against junior's rump. Ahh...the sounds of aggressive fucking. One drawback?-when they switched to the twink on the bathroom counter, all we got to see was the back of the tall guy and none of the real action. Perhaps these shots could have been set up better. But I liked this pairing the best. These two looked like they actually were excited about having sex.

Finally, Mr. Chiselbod demands and gets an extended period of oral attention for his cock from his dark-haired twinkyboy. This is fairly good stuff. But when it came to humping the twink's rump, the results were less than exciting. The guy had his twink bent over the back of the sofa, sometimes with his hands at his sides while he pumped his pecker in the boy's hole, looking for all the world like he was just waiting to catch the next bus. A little more enthusiasm or perhaps any enthusiasm at all would have helped this scene.

The audio was average?more talk or noise from the participants would have made it a lot better and made the cheesy music less annoying. The video was average?the close-up quotient was good but the filming was same-old, same-old. The extras were average?stills, chapter selection, 4 previews and an ad for phone sex. Hell, this entire DVD was average.

Rosebud Productions (which also puts out adult material under the labels Pleasure Productions and In Hand) looks like it produces tons and tons of stuff for the straight market. Their gay DVDs may be an attempt to expand their product line, always a good business strategy. I'm betting this one is typical of their gay products. If it is, unless they develop some credibility by putting out stuff with some bigger names or with a lot more variety and interest, they're never going to be big-time Gay. Better guys, different settings, variations in the sex?that's what's needed. This DVD says to me they've got the skills to put out a good DVD, but the time is long past (I hope) when us gay guys are gonna buy just any sex slapped on a screen. Their entry here was passable good but hardly in a league with the big boys of all-male porn. But if you go for the young, the smooth, and the skinny, you might like this better than I did.
